Foundation Training

Foundation Trainee
Pharmacist Programme at
The Priory Pharmacy

The Priory Pharmacy is an approved training provider for the NHS Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme — the nationally regulated training year that all pharmacy graduates must complete to qualify as a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

We offer a cross-sector programme that combines an extended 39-week community pharmacy placement at The Priory Pharmacy with a 13-week clinical placement at Priory Medical Group. Our programme is built around meaningful patient contact, genuine clinical responsibility, and the multidisciplinary teamworking that defines modern pharmacy.

Applications are submitted through Oriel — the NHS national recruitment platform. You cannot apply directly to The Priory Pharmacy. Full details are in the How to Apply section below.

What is the Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme?

The Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme is a GPhC-mandated, 52-week paid training year. It replaced the pre-registration year as part of the Initial Education and Training of Pharmacists (IETP) reform programme and is now the only route to registering as a pharmacist in the UK.

All foundation training places in England are recruited centrally through Oriel, the NHS recruitment portal also used by trainee doctors and dentists. You submit a single application, complete national assessments, and indicate your preferred training providers — which is why researching and connecting with programmes ahead of the application window matters.
